Crescent City California

Feb 8,2003
Well we got as far as Crescent City,  CA Friday eve. We didn't think we were going to make it that far. The motor home was back fireing, and popping and making all kinds of noises all the way there especially the last 50 or so miles. So we pulled in to the first RV spot. Nice camp ground right on the water (ocean) weather is about the same as it had been at home. It was 25 degrees last night. Thank god we have a gas furnace or we would have froze.
Anyway the people that own the RV park recommended this mechanic, and we got up before breakfast this morning Monday, to go there and see what was wrong. He thinks it is the "brain" computer thingy in the engine. jeez, nothing simple of course. So he worked on it Monday, then we were able to go back to the campground this evening, and took it back again tuesday to get the brain installed. We hung around all day, and he had to "let us go" that evening cause we were tying up his garage. He didn't have lots of room and had cars in there he had to finish. So we went back to the camp ground, and the caretaker there recommended this guy....we call his "friend" Mitch.... actually Robertsons recommended this other guy...so we had a couple of options...we got ahold of mitch, and he said he'd come over and look at it. well he did and he said he couldn't do much there we'd have to take it to his "shop" the operative word here  :)  so the next day, we got up unhooked the motor home, left the campground and went to his "shop" that turned out to be a gutted house in this neighborhood, with cars all over you know the scene...so we pulled up in the street and he came out and looked and hummed and hahed and came with an estimate a while later, he said we were looking at 2500..and possibly a new engine he wouldn't know til he got in there.
Then he looked at Tara and said, "I've got a snake in the house that would eat you"...I'm like oh yea? what kind of snake. ;) Well he has a 21' Albino Boa Contstrictor. I'm like ok, you don't ever bring it out in the yard do you? and he said "well actually he needs to go outside, it's been so rainy we haven't let him out for a while. And I replied, well you won't bring him anywhere near the motor home will you. And he assured me he wouldn't and I assured Al that we didn't need to be here. ;) Well actually neither of else felt real good about this guy, so back to the camp ground we went.....by now it's evening and we paid for another night...next day we got on the phone to like 3 different guys, it's like friday now and no one around here seems to have the time to work on it. Finally we got ahold of Kevin at Pages Auto, and he said if you don't  hear from me by next wed. just bring it in and told Al where he was. Well Tues night, the phone rang and it was him, my heart just sunk, but good news, he called to tell us to go ahead and bring it in. So far it's been beautiful weather, just cold, even in the day time. We managed to buy enuf groceries before we "landed" to have sandwiches and cereal since Friday......LOL.....such luck.
Well I just hope they can get it fixed so we can continue our journey, I would hate like the dickens to have to go back home already. bummer..

So we did. :) well he informed us that we couldn't stay there in the shop because the owner wouldn't allow it, they didn't have insurance to cover something like that. So we packed up best we could and called a car rental place, they came and got us, on the way to find a motel we stopped at this vet and boarded our Maggie and Patches. I could never leave Tara she's too old and needs me. ;) (what am I ever going to do without her).....LOL....SO anyway, that was very sad, we never left our animals ever. So I think it was harder on us than them..So off we went to travel lodge. Once there I called the local ISP and they gave us a one week guest pass for the internet. Then we were really happy, got to talk to everyone and play games etc. didn't feel quite so isolated. Then I called Verizon and told them we were stuck here in Crescent city and needed the phone, so what they could do. Well they put us on another plan so even tho we are roaming we aren't going to be charged for it. So we were relieved somewhat. Called everyone and told them what was up.
It's Feb. 10, Monday...seems like we've been here forever.....We got a game pack the day we left, included wheel of fortune, I never watch it on tv but since we have no Internet or cell phone I'm playing every night, forget Jeapardy I have no brains, Wheel of Fortune is ok.......I'm getting Vanna White under control, she's getting better. actually this game is really cool, just like on tv except without Pat Sajac, which doesn't hurt my feelings any. I got one more mask done and 3 formed last night. Tonight it's not a good time, too tired
this nice picture of Crescent City, it really is a pretty place
